South Carolina Philharmonic: Bolero and Petrushka

South Carolina Philharmonic

There’s a Spanish flavor running through this edition of the program, with a little Russian ballet music thrown in for good measure. It opens with Luciano Berio’s transcription of an evocative Boccherini chamber work and continues with familiar works by Manuel de Falla and Maurice Ravel before featuring the suite from one of Stravinsky’s famous ballet scores. Then another Russian re-interprets the music of Bizet from the world’s most frequently performed opera with his own unique sensibilities.
