Winston-Salem Symphony: “Cello-bration”

cl-WEB-robert-moody-150From the 2011-2012 season of the Winston-Salem Symphony comes this concert celebrating the cello featured in small ensembles, as solo instrument, and as a section of the orchestra. Conductor Robert Moody puts down the baton and picks up a bow to join the other seven cellists and soprano for Villa-Lobos’ most famous work. Principal cellist Brooks Whitehouse takes center stage for Bloch’s emotive concert piece. The cellos also stand out in the opening of the familiar overture by Rossini, and the second movement of Shostakovich’s first symphony.
