The Medium

sp11-WEB-john-pascoe-150To celebrate the birth date of composer Gian Carlo Menotti, founder of the Spoleto Festival USA, John Pascoe directs one of his most popular operas The Medium for this year's festival.  Menotti, while immersed in a world of atonal post-war expressionistic music, took a turn towards a more tuneful direction.  Despite criticism for writing tonally in an age of serialism, The Medium has reach wide sucesses including performances on Broadway.  Director Pascoe speaks directly about this as well as his vision to reach his Spoleto 2011 audience through an devastating post-war European lens.
