Sergei Pavlov

sp11-WEB-pavlov-150Since 2008, Sergei Pavlov as has been guest conductor of the Classic FM Radio Symphony Orchestra in Sofia, Bulgaria. Born in Bulgaria, Pavlov spent his early years in Middle Eastern countries, where his father served as a Bulgarian diplomat. In 2001 he graduated from the Bulgarian National Conservatory of Music with degrees in choral, orchestral, and opera conducting. Upon completing his studies, he joined the conservatory's faculty as assistant professor in conducting, a position he held until departing for the United States in 2004.

Recently Pavlov has been the chorus master of Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, assistant conductor of Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, visiting director of the orchestral and choral programs at Eastern Illinois University, and associate conductor of the Illinois Opera Theater at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana, Illinois. Pavlov has also served as music director of the University of Illinois String Orchestra and assistant conductor of the Quad City Symphony. His first appearance at Spoleto Festival USA was in 2010.
